Now that the Premier League season is drawing to a close, attention begins to be paid to the end of season awards, and especially the Player of the Year awards. Who are the contenders in 2018? Let us see..
Mo Salah – Liverpool
If Mo Salah doesn’t sweep the boards at every player of the year ceremony, then there will be many disappointed Liverpool fans. It is hard to put into context just what the man known as the “King of Egypt” has achieved this season. Liverpool took a huge gamble in the price they paid for him from Roma, considering his previous Premier League struggles with Chelsea, but that gamble has paid off….and then some. His goal scoring stats are just beyond belief and his goals have powered Liverpool upwards in the league and throughout the latter stages of the Champions League. A true match winner if there was ever one.
Sadio Mane – Liverpool
In the whole will he or won’t he saga regarding Philipe Coutinho’s exit to Barcelona, the one thing that kept Liverpool fans sane was the form of Sadio Mane. Flair, scoring ability and creativity have ensured he has been a vital cog in all that Liverpool have achieved this season. It would be hard to see him rising about Mo Salah in any end of season polls but his name should be in the mix.
Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City
Rarely have I watched a footballer who can produce skill, passes and make moves that simply defy belief, but some of De Bruyne’s play this year has been beyond comprehension. Hard working, giving effort from whistle to whistle, the word magician is not too far from the truth. Players like De Bruyne don’t come along very often so watch and admire! May be second favourite behind Salah for the main prizes!
Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane has been so dominant, so important and so consistent with Spurs over the past few seasons, it is easy to become complacent about what he has achieved and the level to which Spurs rely on him. His goal tally and the range of goals he has scored this season cannot be forgotten and if there is such as thing as a “one man team” in the Premier League, it is Spurs and Harry Kane!
David De Gea – Manchester United
An outside bet, but if you are looking at the one player at Old Trafford who has been consistently world class, then it is the man between the sticks. The quiet man is often overlooked but it would be rude to ignore his importance in United’s season.
Are you a betting person, use Betting Apps? Who is your money on? Mo Salah has surely got to be the front runner as the man who has the most individual impact on any team in the Premier League, but then again, how can you overlook a player from the runaway Premier League winners!
